“I left for basic in April. I had been away from home for 8 months. After basic, I went to Ft. Sam Houston for training, then in November I went to Ft. Lee for more training. Well, I got to come home for Christmas break on the 17th of December. I told my mom and sister that I couldn’t come home until the 20th by bus. So, I got with my uncle about a month before and planned out the surprise… He would come pick me up, and I’d wait at my grandma’s house. My grandma would then invite my mom and sister to her house for dinner. My sister got there first with her boyfriend, and then mom came in about 30 min later. Everything worked out flawlessly, exactly as planned.
As time drew nearer for my sister to show up, I was a nervous wreck with anticipation. I was pacing the floors, fighting the butterflies, and barely able to contain myself. When my sister finally showed up, I ran to the bathroom. I was shaking I was so nervous and excited. As I walked out of the bathroom to stand behind her, I could hardly stand it. When she turned around and she saw me, it was incredible. I hugged her so tight I thought I might hurt her. It was an even better reaction than I had hoped for. When mom finally got there, it was the same thing. Standing in the bathroom… barely able to breathe. I knew she would have the biggest reaction, so I’m glad she ended up being last. It was definitely worth every lie I had to tell them. I absolutely love to surprise them!”
